Q. When will my order ship?
Orders placed before 8 AM are typically shipped within the same business day. If an order is placed on the weekend (Friday after 8AM through Sunday) it will not ship until the next business day. Estimates given at checkout are just that and do not account for weekend orders.
Q. Do you offer international shipping?
We are working out logistics and plan to add this feature in the near future. Stay updated on company news, including international shipping, via our social media platforms @henschelhats.
Q. How do I care for my fabric hat?
Remove dust gently with soft brush, always brushing with the nap of the fabric. If your hat becomes wet, shake off excess water and allow air to dry away from high heat or direct sunlight. If possible, use a hat form to keep the crown of the hat from becoming misshapen. To remove stains, sprinkle the stained area with corn starch or talcum powder and allow to sit for at least a couple of hours and then brush away. The powder will absorb the oil. DO NOT USE liquid cleaners on the hat unless the fibers are synthetic. You can use a small amount of mild detergent mixed with water on a clean white cloth to spot treat stains. Rinse by wiping with a cloth dipped in water and allow to dry naturally. Cloth hats can be treated with Scotch guard spray to help keep the dirt and oils from becoming embedded in your hat.
Q. How do I care for my leather hat?
Remove dust gently with soft brush, always brushing with the nap of the fabric. If your hat becomes wet, shake off excess water and allow air to dry away from high heat or direct sunlight. If possible, use a hat form to keep the crown of the hat from becoming misshapen. To remove deeper stains, apply a leather cleaner like Bickmore’s Foaming Dark for dark-colored leather, or Foaming Light for light-colored leather hats. An alternative involves mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle, shaking to combine, lightly spraying the solution onto the hat, and using a soft-bristled brush or sponge to gently work it into the leather. After cleaning, apply a leather conditioner, working it in evenly across the surface. Let it absorb into the leather for a few hours or overnight, then gently buff the hat for a polished look that keeps the leather soft and protected from cracking.
Q. How do I care for my suede leather hat?
Suede leather is more difficult to clean than regular leather because it’s made from the flesh side of the leather and has a delicate, absorbent material:
Cleaning method: Suede can be cleaned with a suede brush, a pencil eraser, white vinegar, rubbing alcohol, or a suede-cleaning solution. Regular leather can be cleaned with a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar.
Cleaning tools: Suede brushes are designed to clean suede and have both stiff metal and soft nylon bristles. For regular leather, use a microfiber cloth.
Cleaning technique: For suede, lightly dab the stain with a damp cloth or flannel. For regular leather, rub the leather in a circular motion to lift dirt.
Drying: Let suede dry naturally away from heat and direct sunlight.
Products to avoid: Don’t use leather cleaner on suede, as it can damage the fibers.
Q. How do I shape my leather hat?
1) Use Tissue Paper: Push out any indented areas in the hat by hand, then stuff the hat with tissue paper until it’s full. Leave the tissue paper in for 24 hours, or repeat the process for 2–3 days if needed.
2) Use Steam: Hold the hat 6–8 inches away from a steam source, like a tea kettle or shower, and carefully reshape it. Don’t soak the hat, and let it dry on its crown before wearing.
3) Use a Hat Form or Wig Stand: Lightly dampen the hat with water or hat shaping spray, then conform it to the desired shape. Place the hat on the form or stand, and let it dry away from direct sunlight and heat for a few days.
4) Use a Plastic Bag and Newspaper: Stuff a plastic bag filled with newspaper into the brim of the hat for a few days.
5) Use a Leather Conditioner: Apply a small amount of leather conditioner to the hat with a clean, dry cloth. Work the conditioner in using circular motions, paying special attention to worn or sun-exposed areas. Let it absorb for several hours or overnight, then buff the hat with a clean, dry cloth.
Q. Can I wash my hat in the washing machine?
We do not recommend washing your hat in the washing machine. This will ruin the shape of the hat and may make it hard to recognize.
Q. How do I measure my head?
Follow the instructions below:
Measure your head: Using your measuring tape or piece of string, evenly wrap it all the way around your head until it overlaps. Be sure to keep it about 1 inch above your ears for the most accurate measurement.
Find your size: Once you’ve obtained your head circumference measurement, take your measuring tape or string and measure the length on your ruler.
Use the hat size chart: To find your hat size, take your ruler measurement and find the corresponding size on the chart. Usually, these charts will list the measurements in centimeters and inches. The average adult hat size is between 53 and 58 centimeters.
- If your measurement falls between two different sizes, we recommend sizing up to the nearest 1/8-inch. You can then use the hat’s sizing tape to size your hat down if necessary.
- It is important to keep in mind that even though there is an industry standard, each hat manufacturer is different. There can be variations and inconsistencies in sizing depending on what company created the hat. That’s why it’s important to measure your head and look at the hat’s specific sizing chart to ensure you find the perfect fit.
- What do I do if my hat is too big? We offer a hat resizer which can reduce your hat by up to 1/4 inch.
Q. Can I stretch my hat if it's too small?
1. Break It In: Whether it’s a brand-new baseball cap or an old cowboy hat, a simple way to stretch your hat into shape is to wear it, wear it, wear it. This will naturally loosen the material so that it better conforms to your head.
2. Spray & Stretch: If wearing the hat isn’t stretching it as quickly as you’d like, it could be time to break out the blow dryer and a spray bottle of water. The following method works well with different hat materials including straw, soft fabrics such as cotton hats, fitted baseball hats, and classic felt designs.
3. Steam: Steaming is a popular method for stretching a hat since it’s an effective way to loosen natural fibers. Like the water spray method, steaming works well with different hat materials including straw, cotton, and wool felt.
4. Hat Stretching Device: For a more hands-off approach to stretching your hat, consider using a basic tool like the Hat-Jack. This straightforward device, available online, also helps maintain a hat’s size when it’s not being worn. Similar to a shoe stretcher, the adjustable wooden mechanism expands the hat’s size by working like a jack from the inside. While you could simply place the stretcher in a dry hat and wait, steaming the hat beforehand can speed up the process.
Q. How do I return my hat?
Please see our returns page for more information.
Q. How do I prevent my hat's color from fading?
1) Avoid chlorine bleach
Chlorine-based bleach can cause color fading and damage polyester fibers. Instead, you can use oxygen-based bleach in moderate amounts.
2) Use a mild detergent
Use a non-bleach, mild detergent intended for clothes when washing your hat. You can also try OxiClean for bright-colored hats and tough stains.
3) Avoid hot water
Hot water can cause colors to fade or run, and may also cause the fabric to shrink.
4) Dry indoors
Avoid using a dryer, which may cause the hat to shrink or deform. Instead, dry your hat indoors to protect it from sunlight, which can cause colors to fade.
5) Soak in oxygen bleach
If your hat looks dull, you can soak it in a solution of oxygen bleach and warm water to whiten or brighten the colors. Follow the package directions and soak the hat for at least four hours or overnight.
